No Rules Quilting!

Be prepared for some inspiration – amazing quilts and blocks coming ahead!

This year, we areĀ each making a 12 inch block, following a color theme for the month, to be made into charity quilts at the end of the year. April\’s color was blue. Green and red blocks are from previous months. Just take a look at these beauties:

Kathy finished her Gravity quilt. It was shown at the Tucson Quilt Guild Show, and she finally got the chance to bring it to a Modern Quilt Guild meeting. It lives on her bed. Great work Kathy!

Gale brought in two pillows she made. They are both very different from each other, and both wonderful.

Ann brought in this One Block Wonder, that she wasn\’t so sure about – until she added the orange. Sometimes the right color is all you need!

This Metro Rings commissioned quilt top has such beautiful colors. If you haven\’t tried the Quick Curve Ruler yet, you should. The quilts turn out stunning.

After show and tell, we got to hear about QuiltCon from our members that got to attend.

Susan W showed this block from a workshop with Amy Garro. The quilt pattern is Crackle.

This Shining Stars Sampler from a workshop with Jeni Baker is lovely. The background grey caught the eye of many of us. It is from Connecting Threads.

Kristi had fun with these necklaces from Andover Fabrics. She figured out how to make her own version with marbles.

She went to the Piece as You Quilt workshop with Krista Withers. It was quilt-as-you-go on a long-arm. They used French Fuse interfacing as a stabilizer.

Feathers are not always easy to do. Kristi\’s sample from another workshop with Krista Withers, Broken Wreath, is wonderful.

The lecture about the quilts by Molly Upton was a hightlight in Kristi\’s experience! She highly recommends looking her up, so you can be inspired by her work. She also enjoyed collecting buttons from the vendors. She enjoyed Violet Craft\’s Love Abstraction. If you want a copy, you can get one here for free.

Elena didn\’t attend any workshops, but instead took time to look at all the quilt show entries and attend the Anna Maria Horner lecture on handstitching. She made sure to be there early every morning to get the swag that was handed out each day. And she says to volunteer. You get free passes, and a different view of the conference.
