Michele’s quilting exploration led her to discover the enchanting realms of Kantha and Kawandi quilting, providing a canvas for the textiles from India she had stored and cherished. During the Sisters Outdoor Quilt show in 2022, Michele encountered the exquisite work of Sujata Shaw (IG https://www.instagram.com/therootconnection), where the art of Kawandi quilting captivated her. Inspired by this encounter, Michele returned home and began repurposing her accumulated treasures—shirts, aged scarves, saris, and fabric she had gathered over time during her 12 trips to India. Liberating these textiles from their plastic confinement, she is happy these textiles are transforming into something beautiful she can display and enjoy.
