Information and Materials List
The process is glueing the background fabric, gluing confetti, then free motion sewing the confetti to the fabric. Then add the next layer to glue and free motion sew down. So you’ll be moving from the back to front of the picture. It takes a little planning.
Material list.
-Sewing machine you can do free motion quilting. I’ll bring 2 in case you don’t have one.
– A batting sandwich approximately 18 x 22-inch piece of batting and the back fabric which can be muslin or any fabric of your choice. We will build the top. The thinner the sandwich the better. You will be quilting through many layers.
-Fabric pen. I prefer a pen with ink that can be ironed off. But you can use a pencil or pen, since the lines will be covered up.
-Inspirational pictures if you want something different than what I’ve done.
-Fabric you can share. I prefer batiks but solid fabrics that are reversible are ok. I used cotton in my confetti quilt but if you want, use other types of fabric or trim for decoration. I will bring a variety of batiks for you to use. So don’t buy any, use your stash. If you don’t have batiks, don’t worry there will be plenty to share. I am short on red and grey batiks. I have some but if you have red or grey that you can spare, please bring them.
-The background sky does not have to be blue. In my Meadow quilt I used a muted blue, green and purple designed batik. I have plenty of blue I’ll bring.
-Don’t cut up the fabric into confetti until you’re at class. You’ll need larger and longer pieces for the saguaros, other plants and mountains.
-An egg carton or some divided container you can keep small pieces of confetti colors separate.
-Multi colors of thread. I used about 4 shades of greens, 3 -4 browns, from dark to beige. Purple, yellow, orange, and blues. Please be willing to share. I will also bring an assortment of threads.
-Glue sticks
-Multiple sewing machine needles, at least 2. Any size you want to sew with. I prefer 80/20. They can get sticky.
-If anyone has an old iron they don’t care if it gets glue on, bring it. The glue does wash off. I have 1 iron I will bring.
-Rotary cutter, small mat you can cut on at your station. There are big mats at the center.
-Scissors
