Just a reminder about upcoming TMQG events in December.

Thursday December 4th 6:30 PM – our Annual Holiday Party & Gift Swap.   The guild will provide light refreshments.   For those new to the “Swap” – there is no right or wrong gift.
Anything/Something made from your “stash” is generally what our guideline is – tote bag, art piece, zip pouch, placemats, table topper, table runner, purse, mini-quilt, etc.
All swap gifts please should be in a brown paper bag with any kind of card with your name on it.   Please no gift wrapping.

The reason for the paper bag “wrapping” is expediency – if we have 40 people at the swap and we each take 3 minutes it is 2 hours of just gift swapping.    Having everything easy to open and a truly “blind” pick seems to move things along, while still having fun and being able to appreciate all the gifts.

Any questions – please reply to this email and will answer as best and as quickly as I can.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday December 2nd  is our last Tuesday Sit & Sew Evening at Cactus Quilt Shop.   5:30 – 7:30.   6032 Oracle (Oracle & Rudasill).  No Cost.   Sara Quigley will be there to provide guidance on the Scrappy Triangle Rug.     Work on your Triangle Rug or any other project, or just stop by and socialize.    The Quilt Shop will be open for shopping.

And finally the last Zoom Sew Day of the year will be this Saturday December 6th – the link/invite is here:

TMQG is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Meeting rung to Order at 6:31 pm by Chris Patrick.

Election of Vice President: Chris reported that Betsy Wycislak had been nominated to serve
as Vice President in 2026 and asked whether any other members were interested in standing
for election to that post. There being no other nominations, upon motion and second, the
members unanimously elected Betsy as Vice President for 2026.

President’s Opening Comments: Chris summarized several items.
(1) The 2026 Executive Board will be:
Ken Harry, President
Betsy Wycislak, Vice President

Suzanne Sabin, Membership

(2) Standing Committee changes for 2026: Katherine Kenward and Ann Weber will take
over Programming/Education. Many thanks to Michele Vaughn for her 2025 leadership.

(3) December 4 will be the annual holiday party and gift swap. Members were asked to put
unwrapped gifts in brown paper bags, along with a card with the gift-giver’s name. This
process is to keep the gift exchange moving along and still make it fun (but not take 2
hours to finish). She said the Guild would provide party treats (e.g., cookies) so
members need not bring them.

(4) December Show and Tell will be limited to items to be gifted in December.

(5) Chris reported there is still no signed contract with JCC for 2026 but we have been
assured that we are on the 2026 schedule.

QuiltCon Quilt Update: Kathy Mack reported on the status and next steps for the quilt.
Secretary’s Report: Suzanne Shema said the October minutes have been posted to the
Guild’s website and Facebook page.

2025.

Quilting for Others: Ann Weber collected quilts and dog beds.
Zoom Sew Day: Rita Hipwood will open the Zoom Sew Day for Saturday, November 15 at
10:00 a.m. Chris will send a notice and Zoom link via email.

Program Coordinator: Michele Vaughn discussed upcoming workshops: (1) Sarah Quigly will
lead part 2 of the Triangle Scrappy Rug at the Cactus Quilt Shop Sit and Stitch session on Dec
2, 5:30 pm; and (2) Ice Dying at the Archer Center in early 2026 (date TBD).

Website Committee: Mary Bellin distributed cards for Show & Tell.

Stash Coordinator: Sue Bond brought quilt kits to be completed and collected blocks made
from Focus Fabrics.

Social Media: James Hodges informed members to contact him if they are having difficulty
getting into the Guild’s Facebook page.

Retreat 2026: Betsy Wycislak reported that retreat prizes were coming in from vendors and that
payment was due today for the 2026 retreat.

Confetti Desert Quilt

Confetti Desert Quilt Class by Mary Bellin
May 17, 2025 at Fred Archer Community center 10 am to 4 pm.

Information and Materials List

The process is glueing the background fabric, gluing confetti, then free motion sewing the confetti to the fabric. Then add the next layer to glue and free motion sew down. So you’ll be moving from the back to front of the picture. It takes a little planning.

Material list.

-Sewing machine you can do free motion quilting.  I’ll bring 2 in case you don’t have one.

– A batting sandwich approximately 18 x 22-inch piece of batting and the back fabric which can be muslin or any fabric of your choice. We will build the top. The thinner the sandwich the better. You will be quilting through many layers.

-Fabric pen. I prefer a pen with ink that can be ironed off. But you can use a pencil or pen, since the lines will be covered up.

-Inspirational pictures if you want something different than what I’ve done.

-Fabric you can share. I prefer batiks but solid fabrics that are reversible are ok. I used cotton in my confetti quilt but if you want, use other types of fabric or trim for decoration. I will bring a variety of batiks for you to use. So don’t buy any, use your stash. If you don’t have batiks, don’t worry there will be plenty to share. I am short on red and grey batiks. I have some but if you have red or grey that you can spare, please bring them.

-The background sky does not have to be blue. In my Meadow quilt I used a muted blue, green and purple designed batik. I have plenty of blue I’ll bring.

-Don’t cut up the fabric into confetti until you’re at class. You’ll need larger and longer pieces for the saguaros, other plants and mountains.

-An egg carton or some divided container you can keep small pieces of confetti colors separate.

-Multi colors of thread. I used about 4 shades of greens, 3 -4 browns, from dark to beige. Purple, yellow, orange, and blues. Please be willing to share. I will also bring an assortment of threads.

-Glue sticks

-Multiple sewing machine needles, at least 2. Any size you want to sew with. I prefer 80/20. They can get sticky.

-If anyone has an old iron they don’t care if it gets glue on, bring it. The glue does wash off. I have 1 iron I will bring.

-Rotary cutter, small mat you can cut on at your station. There are big mats at the center.

-Scissors
